I CORINTHIANS 1:30-31: “You are partners with Christ Jesus because of God. Jesus has become our wisdom sent from God, our approval, our holiness, and our ransom from sin. As Scripture says, “Whoever brags must brag about what the Lord has done.” (GW)
OBSERVATION: What is the most important thing about Christmas? For the believer, this is an easy question. Christmas is about Jesus! Yet, it is not just a prolonged month of celebrating His birth. Christmas is a reminder of the wonder of the gift of God’s Son. It is because of this gift that we have approval with God, victory over sin, and the opportunity to share in the very nature of God. Jesus is not only the gift of life – He is our life!
Since Jesus’ birth, the enemy of our souls has tried to keep men and women from this truth. It began when he tried to complicate the birth of Christ by closing the heart of everyone in Bethlehem from giving Joseph and Mary a room. Yet, being born in a humble stable would not keep God’s gift from being given.
The enemy tried to stop this gift by inciting Herod to kill all male children from the age 2 and under. Yet, the angel of the Lord protected this precious gift by guiding Joseph, Mary, and Jesus to safety.
And finally, the enemy tried to destroy God’s gift at the height of Jesus’ popularity and ministry, by turning the hearts of His people against Him, and crucifying Jesus on a cross to both humiliate Him and destroy Him.
Yet, this gift of light and life could not be extinguished. The celebration in hell was abruptly cut short on Resurrection Day! Jesus, risen from the dead, descended victoriously into Hades (the abode of the dead, both the faithful and unfaithful), and led the faithful who were captive, waiting for the Messiah, into the Father’s presence and the promise of their internal inheritance.
Jesus is the gift of Christmas! He is – The gift of forgiveness from sin. The gift of reconciliation with God. The gift of a new nature, and the promise of the resurrection. The gift of eternal life – both quantitively and qualitatively. He alone is our wisdom, our strength, and our righteousness! All other gifts are merely a celebration of the One Gift – given by God the Father, to all who will believe.
- “God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. Those who believe in him won’t be condemned. But those who don’t believe are already condemned because they don’t believe in God’s only Son.” John 3:16-18 GW
I pray that everyone who reads these words – will receive this Gift!
In Jesus Name!
