image II THESSALONIANS 1:6-7: “Certainly, it is right for God to give suffering to those who cause you to suffer. It is also right for God to give all of us relief from our suffering. He will do this when the Lord Jesus is revealed, ⌊coming⌋ from heaven with his mighty angels in a blazing fire.” (GW‬‬)

OBSERVATION: Why doesn’t God stop all the violence? Why is there so much injustice in the world? These are questions many are asking. They are questions that will be answered, but not in the way many want them to. There is a day of reckoning coming, there is a day of judgment that is near. It is a day when God will repay all those who have caused senseless suffering and comfort all those who have suffered. This day will come when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in a blazing fire!

Some may mock this statement. Others may laugh and think it a misguided and archaic belief held by those who use religion as a crutch. Whatever one’s response, it will not alter the outcome. There is a day of reckoning coming. There is a day of judgment approaching. No one knows the hour or the day of Jesus Christ’s return – but as surely as He came He will return!

The evil and the violence we witness today in our world is not the result of a God who does not care. It is the result of mankind’s sin and rebellion against God. God could have simply left us to ourselves, or wiped us out in judgment. Instead – He came to earth to live among us, to teach us the way of life, and to die in our place to pay the full penalty for our sin. The empty tomb is the declaration of His victory and the open door of His invitation.

There is a way to escape the judgment that is coming upon the earth. It is through faith in Jesus Christ!

  • “Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet. It was not God’s intention that we experience his anger but that we obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake in this life or asleep in death, we will live together with him. Therefore, encourage each other and strengthen one another as you are doing.” (‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:8-11‬ ‭GW‬‬)

God could end everything today, yet in His longsuffering He is calling all men to repent!

  • “First, you must understand this: In the last days people who follow their own desires will appear. These disrespectful people will ridicule ⌊God’s promise⌋ by saying, “What’s happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it did from the beginning of the world…The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.” (‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:3-4, 9‬ ‭GW‬‬)

Now is the acceptable time! Now is the day of salvation! God’s love and grace are calling all men to repent – before it is too late. There will be a day of reckoning!  There will be a day of judgment! An all loving and righteous God will not allow those who have suffered to go throughout all eternity without justice.

  • “He will take revenge on those who refuse to acknowledge God and on those who refuse to respond to the Good News about our Lord Jesus. They will pay the penalty by being destroyed forever, by being separated from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious power. ⌊This will happen⌋ on that day when he comes to be honored among all his holy people and admired by all who have believed in him. This includes you because you believed the testimony we gave you.” (‭‭2 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:8-10‬ ‭GW‬‬)

This is not a popular subject to talk about. Yet, love without justice is really no love at all. So how should we respond? This should motivate us to live a life that is in the light. It should fill our hearts with urgency to share the Gospel with those who do not know Jesus Christ. And it should help us live with an assurance of God’s faithfulness and the blessed assurance of His soon coming return!

  • “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (‭‭Luke‬ ‭21:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)
