THE PROMISE OF JOY IN THE MORNING!

PSALM 30:5: “His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning.” (GW)‭‭

OBSERVATION: Will this trial ever end? Does God still love me? Why does God seem so distant? When we walk through a prolonged time of trial or suffering these are the questions that rush to our minds. Anyone who has experienced a prolonged sickness and recovery knows of this journey. There are times when we think it will never end, when we begin to doubt God’s Word and promises in our life. Yet, in all of these times this promise stands true –

  • “Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning.”

This is not a promise that every time we go to bed facing a trial, or find ourselves walking through the valley of sorrow, that we will wake up the next morning and always be greeted with an instantaneous victory. It is a poetic reminder that all trials in this life are transitory. The person who places their faith in the living God will always make it through the trials of life – and enter into the blessings and provision of the Lord.

  • “Even though I walk through the dark valley of death, because you are with me, I fear no harm. Your rod and your staff give me courage. You prepare a banquet for me while my enemies watch. You anoint my head with oil. My cup overflows.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:4-5‬ ‭GW‬‬)
  • “Turn all your anxiety over to God because he cares for you. Keep your mind clear, and be alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion as he looks for someone to devour. Be firm in the faith and resist him, knowing that other believers throughout the world are going through the same kind of suffering. God, who shows you his kindness and who has called you through Christ Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, strengthen you, make you strong, and support you as you suffer for a little while. Power belongs to him forever. Amen.” (‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:7-11‬ ‭GW‬‬)

Even when we are being disciplined by the hand of God, His discipline is always guided by His love. His anger only lasts for a moment, but His favor is for a lifetime!

  • “Endure your discipline. God corrects you as a father corrects his children. All children are disciplined by their fathers…For a short time our fathers disciplined us as they thought best. Yet, God disciplines us for our own good so that we can become holy like him. We don’t enjoy being disciplined. It always seems to cause more pain than joy. But later on, those who learn from that discipline have peace that comes from doing what is right.” (‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:7, 10-11‬ ‭GW‬‬)

So what am I to do when I find myself in the midst of a prolonged trial, on the road of suffering, or in the process of godly correction? I am called to humble myself and place my trust in the faithfulness and nature of God. God is love, His purposes are always directed toward good in my life. When I humble myself before God I place myself under His favor and care. I am surrendered in faith. I am positioned in obedience. I am actively resisting the devil and the temptation of my flesh. I become the recipient of all sufficient and overcoming grace!

  • But God shows us even more kindness (grace). Scripture says, “God opposes arrogant people, but he is kind to humble people.” So place yourselves under God’s authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you. Come close to God, and he will come close to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners, and clear your minds, you doubters. Be miserable, mourn, and cry. Turn your laughter into mourning and your joy into gloom. Humble yourselves in the Lord’s presence. Then he will give you a high position.” (‭‭James‬ ‭4:6-10‬ ‭GW‬‬)

Lord, thank You for Your eternal promise of favor and victory in my life through Jesus Christ my Lord. I thank You for all the times You have delivered me, for the victories You are bringing into my life today, and for Your promise that no matter what I face in life – I will always overcome them by Your Grace!

Thank You for Your promise of joy in the morning!

In Jesus Name!
