WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF AMERICA?

EZEKIEL 29:13-16: “For thus says the Lord God: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered, and I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to the land of Pathros, the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom. It shall be the most lowly of the kingdoms, and never again exalt itself above the nations. And I will make them so small that they will never again rule over the nations. And it shall never again be the reliance of the house of Israel, recalling their iniquity, when they turn to them for aid. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.” (ESV)‭‭

OBSERVATION: What is the future of America? This is a question that I find myself pondering as I look upon the current culture of politics, society, and religion. I have often wondered as I read the prophetic books and the Book of Revelation why many countries are easy to identify, but the great country of the United States does not seem to be one of them. Could it be that the United States of America is heading down the same road as did once powerful Egypt?

Egypt once ruled the world. In the days of Joseph there was no power that was greater. Egypt kept a position of world leadership for a great period of time. Ezekiel prophesied about the coming fall of Egypt under the hand of Nebudchadnezzar, King of Babylon. Egypt, proud, self reliant, and full of idolatry, was going to be judged. The once great nation would fall captive to the great army of Babylon. The Lord would allow Egypt to be gathered together once again, but never again as a power that would dominate the world. Today this remains to be true. Egypt still stands as a sovereign nation, but wields little power or influence over the affairs of the world.

“And I will make them so small that they will never again rule over the nations.”

I love my country. I pray for my country. I am proud of the history of the United States of America and its’ stand for freedom around the world. The Lord has used the United States to be a force for freedom and justice in the world. He has also used the United States as the beachhead for a missionary movement that has propelled the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. Yet, no one can simply live off the accomplishments of their past and squander their present and their future. Once, proudly a nation that called upon the name of the Lord, the Untied States has become proud and self serving. Idolatry and corruption are increasing at exponential rates. The principles of God’s Word that were once adhered to in our government and our courts are being shed like layers of clothing. America the Beautiful’s garments have become soiled with insolence and pride.

This is a time for believers to humble themselves and pray. Perhaps the Lord will relent and send revival once again to turn the tide of our land. However, we must heed the warnings of the Word of God. If there is no repentance, if there is no change, like every other nation before us – America will be judged. This is a sobering truth that many do not want to face. Like Judah they put their trust in our history and ignore our present. In all honesty, I would rather ignore it myself and put a positive spin on everything. Yet, this would be both ignorant and destructive. If America is ever to become “beautiful” once again it will only be through a dramatic return to the Lord and its’ founding principals.

I learned of something very interesting recently. The Ukraine is in the midst of writing a new constitution. They have asked thousands of college students to help draft a new constitution that resembles the founding principles of American – AS IT WAS – NOT AS IT IS. From this open contest they hope to redirect their nation towards what made America a great nation. Would that our leaders would take heed and help us return to the America – AS IT WAS. This is not a call to return to the errors of our past. Rather, it is a call to recapture the foundation of the past. It was a Godly foundation, a Biblical foundation, a moral foundation. There were many sins and errors of our forefathers. Yet, it was not the foundation that was at fault, but the hearts of sinful man. Now we have both the actions of sinful man and the erosion of our foundation. It is like a custom home built on the sandstone cliffs of Malibu. Something is going to give!

Lord, forgive me for the areas where I have departed from the foundational principles of Your Word. Turn my heart fully back to You. Give me a burden to pray for this nation. Give me a burden to reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pour out Your Spirit once again and bring revival to America. Turn our hearts to You oh Lord – before it is too late!

In Jesus Name!
