LUKE 20:17-18: “But he looked directly at them and said, “What then is this that is written: “‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’? 18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”
OBSERVATION: What is the ultimate question in life? Throughout life we wrestle with many questions. What will I do with my life? Where will I live? Who will I marry? Will I have enough money to retire? Will I be happy? These are questions that everyone faces. Yet, they are not the most important question we must answer in our lifetime. The most important question we all must answer is – Who is Jesus?
This is a question that everyone will answer. We will either answer it willingly, or we will answer it by default. Jesus said – “Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces…” This is the one who answers the question willingly. If we come to the Lord Jesus Christ through brokenness and repentance we will meet Him as the only foundation for life – the cornerstone of our salvation. We come to Him broken of our own free will and He grants us full pardon and restores us unto life and wholeness.
There is another way that one can answer this question. This is by default. This will be the mandatory answer that is required of every man and every woman who fails to come to Jesus Christ willingly in brokenness and repentance. This refers to the judgment of God upon those who will not repent. The very one who came to give them life will now stand as Judge over their lives. Jesus said – “…and when it fall on anyone, it will crush him.” The Book of Revelation unfolds the reality of this answer by unrepentant mankind. It is a sobering and unescapable reality.
There are only two answers to the greatest question in life. One very familiar chorus expresses this very well – “One day every tongue will confess Him as Lord, one day every knee will bow, still the greatest treasure remains for those, who gladly choose Him now.” Lord, thank You for granting me the Grace to choose You now! I pray that you will draw the hearts of all those I know and love and grant them the Grace to come to You in full surrender, repentance, and faith. I pray you will willingly choose Him now! In Jesus Name!
