PSALM 145:18-20: “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The LORD preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy.”
OBSERVATION: The Lord is NEAR! What a comforting truth. What a wonderful promise. When Jesus was preparing for his death He spoke of the Holy Spirit that would be with all of His disciples. Jesus said – “He is “with” you, but He will be “in” you…” (John 14:17). This is how the Lord is near – through His Spirit. On the Day of Pentecost this became a reality to the 120 who were gathered together. Today, it continues to become the reality of all those who call upon the name of the Lord. The promise of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is for all who would believe – both then and now!
Jesus went on to tell His disciples that the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth. For three years the apostles had the joy and privilege of walking physically with Jesus. Each day they could personally interact with Him, hear His teaching, see His expression, feel His love. But the day was coming when those daily lessons would not take place, when Jesus would no longer walk with them. How would they continue to know the truth? Who would lead them and guide them? The Holy Spirit!
Jesus told the disciples – “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13-14 NKJV)
The Holy Spirit is the one who continues to reveal “The Truth” to us. He continues to lead us to Jesus and to the heart of the Father. The Holy Spirit works the will of God in our lives and comforts us in our way. He is the Blessed Comforter. The Holy Spirit is how the Lord is always near. And as the Holy Spirit leads us and guides us, as He transforms us and teaches us – our desires become the desires of the Father and we begin to walk in the fullness of life and purpose that we were created for.
Lord, help me to hear the still small voice of Your Spirit within me today. May I run to Your Word knowing that the Holy Spirit will open my eyes to see all the wonders of Your Truth. And as I abide in Your Truth, as You transform my desires, as Your love captivates my heart – lead me into the paths of righteousness that You have determined for my life. Help me to live this day fully engaged in Your will for my life, by Your Grace and through the power of Your Holy Spirit! In Jesus Name!
