ISAIAH 50:4:
“The Lord GOD has given Me,
The tongue of the learned
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.”
OBSERVATION: While this verse speaks of the coming Messiah – I believe it also holds a promise to each and every believer. Colossians speaks of the mystery of the ages which is – “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Paul reminds us in I Corinthians that we have the mind of Christ. If Christ lives within us through the Holy Spirit, if we have been given the mind of Christ through the Holy Spirit, then we can enter into this revelation of the Spirit through Jesus Christ.
This truth is further amplified through many of Jesus’ promises to his disciples. He told them that when they were brought before kings and magistrates to give a defense for their faith they were not to prepare what they were going to say, the Holy Spirit would give them the very words needed at that moment. This is the fulfillment of the promise – “The Lord has given Me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak.”
The book of I Corinthians also speaks of the gifts of the Spirit that are given for the edification of the church. The gift of prophecy is given as a word of exhortation, comfort, and edification. This is the fulfillment of the promise – “A word in season to him who is weary.”
Finally, Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would lead and guide us into all truth. The promise of progressive and ongoing revelation is given to each believer. This fulfills the promise – “He awakens me morning by morning, He awakens my ear to hear as the learned.”
If we truly understand these promises we realize that we need never be far from the Lord’s presence. He has given us the indwelling Holy Spirit as the guarantee of our relationship and our redemption. The Holy Spirit delights in daily revealing the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives, in opening our understanding to the promises of God’s Word, in guiding us into a fuller revelation of the nature of Father God, and leading us on the pathway of promise and victory in our lives for His Kingdom!
Lord, thank you for your promise to meet me each morning. Thank you for your promise to give me new and deeper revelation as I look to Your Word. Thank you for your promise to lead me into Your presence and promises. In Jesus Name!
I would like to receive your Read the Bible in a Year program. I really find the sharing of your daily devotionals very helpful, inspiring.
