BLESSED ASSURANCE!

PSALMS 111:7-10: “All he does is just and good, and all his commandments are trustworthy. They are forever true, to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity. He has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever. What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has! Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!”

OBSERVATION: Am I walking in assurance, Blessed Assurance? As we watch the news each day, as war rages around the world, as our future feels unsure, as we look for a ray of hope, what can we hang on to? The Psalmist this morning reminds me. I can hang on to my…

Blessed Assurance!

First, I can hang on to the fact that the Lord is good!

“All he does is just and good…” (Psalms 111:7a)

The Scriptures declare that He is good and He does good (Psalms 119:68). The evil that rages in our world is not from His hand. The injustice we see in the world is not the will of His heart. The fear that grips the hearts of so many does not come from Him. Sin entered the world through our disobedience. Grace and mercy entered the world through our Lord Jesus Christ. My Blessed Assurance is that…

“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalms 23:6 NLT)

Second, I can trust everything the Lord has said!

“…All his commandments are trustworthy. They are forever true, to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity.” (Psalms 111:7b-8 NLT)

In a world where truth and trustworthiness are diminishing commodities, God and His Word stand secure for the believer. His Word and His Commandments are as true and relevant today as they were when they were written thousands of years ago. God never changes, and His Word never changes. God’s Word can be fully trusted and obeyed. His Word always accomplishes what it sets out to do and always blesses the one who follows it with faithfulness and integrity!

“But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” (James 1:25. NLT)

Third, we can rest in the Blessed Assurance of the completed work of Jesus Christ!

“He has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever. What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has!” (Psalms 111:9 NLT)

When we look at the unrest all around us, we have an anchor in the storm of uncertainty. It is not our trust in governments. It is not in our own wisdom and strength. It is in the completed work of Jesus Christ. Jesus not only died for our sins, but He also died for the sins of the entire world. Jesus came to redeem us from sin, our bodies from eternal decay, and our world from the ravages of sin. We stand strong in the storms of life because we are anchored to His Holy, Awe-Inspiring Name! We know the end of the story!

“Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 NLT)

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:1-4 NLT)

These three things bring me great assurance, Blessed Assurance! They cause me to pause in the midst of everything going on around me. My head lifts toward heaven, my heart is filled with awe and gratitude. I am reminded of the blessings that follow all who fear the Lord, who put their full trust in Him.

“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!” (Psalms 111:10 NLT)

So, as the final stanza in the great hymn, “Blessed Assurance” proclaims…

Perfect submission, all is at rest,

I in my Savior am happy and blest;

watching and waiting, looking above,

filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long;

this is my story, this is my song,

praising my Savior all the day long.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Blessed Assurance through Jesus Christ my Lord! Grant me the grace to walk in Your goodness, Your Word, Your Presence, and Your…

BLESSED ASSURANCE!

In Jesus’ Name!

About Kirk's Devotional Journal

Kirk L. Zehnder is the Founder of Resurrection Christian Outreach. RCO is a ministry that promotes the growth and vitality of the local church through speaking engagements, seminars, various media tools, and written curriculum and books. This ministry was started over 35 years ago by Kirk as a means to strengthen the church that he was pastoring. It grew as Kirk began to share these tools with other churches. Today many of the materials are being used by local churches both nationally and internationally. Kirk's Devotional Journal is a result of struggling with Bible reading programs that never seemed to work. Kirk feels the Lord helped him discover an easy-to-follow program to Read, Reflect, Pray, and Journal through the Bible in one year. This program is called L.I.F.E. Unlike other programs there are no dates to follow. You can miss a day and still complete your reading. You never feel like the dates and verses you missed are chasing you. You are free to enjoy your daily Biblical journey and listen to the voice of The Lord. For more information on the L.I.F.E. plan, send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com. Kirk is also available for speaking engagements, seminars, and retreats. With over 40 years of professional business and pastoral ministry experience, Kirk brings a unique combination of practical wisdom, humor, and Biblical insight. If you would like Kirk to speak at your church, school, or ministry, please send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your opportunity.
