PSALMS 119:25: “My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.” NKJV
OBSERVATION: Have you ever hit a dry spot in your devotions? You open the Word, read it, and it seems like you are climbing uphill. There are no moments of revelation, no deep thoughts, and it seems like you are simply reading over verses that you have read so many times. What do you do…
WHEN THERE IS NO VISION?
I am traveling through one of these valleys at the moment. I love God’s Word. I have spent my life pouring over the Scriptures and have been in awe of the wonderful times when I have been given revelation as I read the Word. Yet, today I find myself once again feeling like the Psalmist as he writes,
MY SOUL CLINGS TO THE DUST!
I have not had anything inspiring to write about. I have finished my reading and prayer time with an empty basket. There is a sense of guilt that I am struggling with as I seem to be reading and praying out of duty rather than out of delight. I pray each day for a breakthrough. As I began to meditate on Psalm 119, an acrostic Psalm that is devoted to the wonders of God’s Word, I could only work up the strength to pray,
REVIVE ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD!
I have traveled this valley before. I have gone to the familiar water spots only to find rocks and dust. I have battled with feelings of inadequacy and guilt. My faith has battled as I opened God’s Word and walked away without a special moment of inspiration and revelation. The enemy has whispered – “God has abandoned you.” My physical and emotional strength has waned. All I can do is cry out to God,
REVIVE ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD!
The one thing that I have learned over the years of walking with the Lord and abiding in His Word is that God never leaves us in the valley. Why do we find ourselves here at times? Why isn’t life one mountaintop experience after another? It may be that the Lord is trying to teach us something or perfect our faith. It may also be that we are being attacked by the enemy. Whatever the reason, I have learned that God always will lead us through the valleys of life!
- “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4 NKJV
In these times I must remind myself – there is no time that is spent in God’s Word that is not fruitful. The Word of God is living and active. The words on the pages of Scripture are my daily bread. They are a revelation of Jesus Christ. They are the pathway of life. They are the only source of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. I don’t come to God’s Word to simply receive a blessing. I come to God’s Word to have fellowship with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit!
Weariness never lasts if we persevere in faithfulness. Why am I weary? Is it physical, emotional, or spiritual? I don’t really know. However, one thing I am certain of, one thing I know from experience – He will lead me to still waters. He will restore my soul. He will lead me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.
- “I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes. Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word. Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously. I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me. I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame! I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.” Psalms 119:26-32 NKJV
ENLARGE MY HEART, I PRAY…
In Jesus’ Name!
