PHILIPPIANS 3:20-21: “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.” (NKJV)
OBSERVATION: Is heaven a reality in my life? Am I eagerly awaiting the return of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Does the hope of the resurrection affect the way I am living each day? Paul’s answer to all of these questions was a resounding – YES! What is the answer to these questions in my life?
It is hard to think of heaven when you are constantly bombarded with the things of this earth. As we go through the day to day struggles of life, to think about heaven seems both distant, and quite honestly, impractical. Yet, when we are faced with the death of a loved one, or a challenge that threatens one’s life, the hope of heaven, the return of Jesus Christ, and the resurrection of the body suddenly become both relevant and close.
I have found at these times, when I reflect upon heaven, the promise of Christ’s return, and hope of the resurrection – there is a great peace that overtakes my heart. We all know that this life is temporary. It is like we are on an extended vacation. We are enjoying our stay, but deep inside of our hearts we know that this is not our home. We have an eternal home that the Lord has prepared for us, and for all those who love Him and look for His appearing. This is our blessed hope!
- “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” (John 14:1-4 NKJV)
This hope gives us the strength to live our life in courage and confidence, even in the midst of great difficulty and loss. We have a purpose on this earth as we prepare for heaven. Our purpose is to live for the glory of God, and share HIs love with as many people as we can – so they too can discover the hope of heaven, Jesus’ return, and the resurrection! We are called to live each and every day to the glory of God.
- “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31 NKJV)
Lord, open my eyes and my heart this morning to the hope of heaven! Let me live each day to your glory as I await the return of Jesus Christ! Fill me with strength and courage through the blessed assurance of the resurrection! May my life reflect Your love so that others may see Your goodness and look to Jesus in both faith and hope!
In Jesus Name!
