HOSEA 4:1-2: “Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: “There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land. By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed.” NKJV
OBSERVATION: Why are our cities burning? Why are people looting in the streets? Why is there no respect for our police departments and authority figures in our country? Is it President Trump’s fault or is something else behind this continual rise of evil and unrest?

To blame a sitting President, regardless of which party they are affiliated with, for the outbreak of evil and lawlessness in our land is foolish. We have bought into the victim mentality so much that we have forsaken the foundational truth of personal responsibility. Just yesterday another man was shot by the police in Pennsylvania. We have video footage of the man charging police with a knife and refusing to stand down. And, we have footage of the police shooting the man in what appears to be an act of self-defense.

What is the response in the streets? Violence and looting. This is even before all the facts are in. It is always tragic when someone is shot and killed. Yet, our police are facing a growing sense of aggression and violence. Men and women are emboldened to resist their authority and use violence against the men and women, of all colors, who are risking their lives to protect us. Are all of our police corrupt? Is it their fault that someone charges them with a knife when they are called to respond to a risky situation? We need to ask some hard questions!

Hosea hits the nail on the head when he writes,

  • “There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land.”

We have forsaken the truth and knowledge of God in our land. We have removed God from the public square. We have forbidden our schools from teaching the Ten Commandments. We have embraced evil for good and eschewed good for evil. We protest prayer in public schools and we celebrate rioting and burning in the streets as peaceful protests. We have sown to the wind and we are reaping the whirlwind.

  • “By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed.”

Yet, as with Israel and Judah, so with America, God’s mercy is always extended. God never judges a nation simply because of the evil that exists. God judges a nation because of the faithfulness or lack thereof of His people in that nation. God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah if there were only 5 righteous people. There were only 3! It is not too late for America. It is up to the church. It is up to God’s people. We need to do much more than vote on November 3.

  • “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.” II Chronicles‬ ‭7:13-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I remember an America where children were raised up to fear God. I remember an America where we were proud to stand for our National Anthem, respected our flag, and took pride in helping our fellow man. I remember an America where we respected authority and the golden rule was taught and emulated. And, I remember an America that believed in prayer.

America has been special because it was founded upon the principles of God’s Word. Our Founders knew that the Republic that they were forming could only succeed if America was a moral nation. We can point out all of America’s sins and faults. However, the church in our history has risen against the evils and God has answered in our history with waves of revival to turn the course of our land.

We desperately need another revival!

Lord, pour out Your Holy Spirit upon the church in America. Move the hearts of Your people to repentance. Turn the tide of lawlessness and godlessness in our land. Bring revival once again!

In Jesus Name!

About Kirk's Devotional Journal

Kirk L. Zehnder is the Founder of Resurrection Christian Outreach. RCO is a ministry that promotes the growth and vitality of the local church through speaking engagements, seminars, various media tools, and written curriculum and books. This ministry was started over 35 years ago by Kirk as a means to strengthen the church that he was pastoring. It grew as Kirk began to share these tools with other churches. Today many of the materials are being used by local churches both nationally and internationally. Kirk's Devotional Journal is a result of struggling with Bible reading programs that never seemed to work. Kirk feels the Lord helped him discover an easy-to-follow program to Read, Reflect, Pray, and Journal through the Bible in one year. This program is called L.I.F.E. Unlike other programs there are no dates to follow. You can miss a day and still complete your reading. You never feel like the dates and verses you missed are chasing you. You are free to enjoy your daily Biblical journey and listen to the voice of The Lord. For more information on the L.I.F.E. plan, send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com.
