HEBREWS 2:8-9: “You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.” (NKJV)
OBSERVATION: GOD IS IN CONTROL! This is not simply a platitude, it is the true cosmic reality. In the midst of all the current saber rattling, threats of nuclear war, prophetic warnings of a coming financial collapse – this is the truth that we must remind ourselves of over and over again! When Jesus rose from the dead, the Father gave Him authority over ALL THINGS!
A sincere doubter might then ask – “Why is the world in such a mess?” This is both a good and fair question. Without the Biblical revelation we would be left in the dark concerning God’s eternal purposes. Yet, when we examine the Scriptures we find that the world is winding down like a clock, awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. We are now in that interim period, when, as the writer of Hebrews clearly states – “…But now we do not see all things put under him…”.
The question that remains is – “WHY”?
- “…Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation…But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” (II Peter 3:3-4, 8-9 NKJV)
It is actually God’s love that is delaying the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It is because of His love and forbearance that both you and I are saved. And as long as the final harvest is still to be gathered, He will tarry. In the midst of this harvest Jesus reminded us that there would be wars and rumors of wars, catastrophic events in the world, and that the hearts of men would grow cold. All of this does not negate the fact that Jesus Christ is fully in control.
While we do not see all things yet put under His feet – WE DO SEE JESUS! And seeing, we are assured of His promise,
- “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-3 NKJV)
- “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:27-28 NKJV)
So, when the world prophesies doom – WE SEE JESUS! When the world warns of war – WE SEE JESUS! When the world warns of financial collapse – WE SEE JESUS! By faith we know that He holds us firmly in His hand. He will lead, guide, and provide for every one of His children through this interim period as we await His Second Coming!
For the believer there is no call to fear. There is simply a call to LOOK UP – in great expectation – FOR OUR REDEMPTION IS DRAWING NEAR!
In Jesus Name!
