IS YOUR NAME WRITTEN IN HIS BOOK?

e157b45d-37ba-48c8-bfcb-0a7faf53b5d2-5989-0000053640b656ab_tmpDANIEL 12:1-4: “⌊The person who looked like a human continued,⌋ “At that time Michael, the great commander, will stand up on behalf of the descendants of your people. It will be a time of trouble unlike any that has existed from the time there have been nations until that time. But at that time your people, everyone written in the book, will be rescued. Many sleeping in the ground will wake up. Some will wake up to live forever, but others will wake up to be ashamed and disgraced forever. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness on the horizon. Those who lead many people to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever. “But you, Daniel, keep these words secret, and seal the book until the end times. Many will travel everywhere, and knowledge will grow.” (GW)‭‭

OBSERVATION: What do I really believe about the “End Times”? Is there an ultimate day of reckoning? Is there a day when righteousness will overcome evil, light will prevail against darknes, and life will triumph over death? The opening verses in the closing chapter of Daniel give us an answer. It is a familiar answer that many of us grew up proclaiming through a common creed in the church. However, the use of these creeds are not a common place in the church today. As I read these verses it drew me to the Nicene Creed that I memorized and recited as a young child growing up.

THE NICENE CREED:
“I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.”

This creed proclaimed the essence and nature of God, the essence and nature of salvation, the essence and nature of the church, and the coming day of reckoning. This statement of faith, which dates back to 325 and 381 A.D., was the universal confession of the orthodox church. There was not doubt about their expectation of the end times –

  • “…He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.”
  • “…and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.”

This is the same hope that was given to Daniel.

  • “But at that time your people, everyone written in the book, will be rescued. Many sleeping in the ground will wake up. Some will wake up to live forever, but others will wake up to be ashamed and disgraced forever. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness on the horizon. Those who lead many people to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.”

There is a day coming when righteousness will overcome evil, light will prevail against darkness, and life will overcome death!

It is reserved for everyone “written in the book”, for everyone who proclaims:

  • “I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.  And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.  Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father…”

Is your name written in His Book?

If not, it is not too late!

  • “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” (‭Revelation‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

In Jesus Name!
