WHAT WILL YOUR CHILDREN LEARN IN SCHOOL?

HEBREWS 11:3: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” (ESV)‭

OBSERVATION: School is back in session! Children all over our nation are putting on their new clothes and carrying their new lunch boxes and backpacks to start a new year of learning and to make new friends. I will always remember the joy and excitement I had each year during this time. Yet, for parents with children in our public school system, and even in some private and parochial schools, it is a time of concern, and for both it is a call to prayer.

For the home school family this concern is not the same, as they are in control over the content of curriculum that they are teaching their children. However, for the families who do not home school, and this is the majority of families, they do not have this same level of comfort. They know that today they need to be actively involved in the entire educational process that their children will experience. This will range from the mastery of the general subjects they need, to the areas that carry the greatest concern, that being culturally impacted studies on ethical subjects and the ever invasive “theory of evolution”.

In today’s modern educational system the “theory of evolution” is taught as a fact. If one questions this “theory” they are thought to be part of the neanderthal class from which we are purported to have evolved. So much of the cultural dilemmas we face today really flow out of the “theory of evolution”. If man is simply an evolution of animal life, than we hold no special place in the creative order. Everyone came from the same chain and we are all equal. The natural outcome of this is that human life is of no greater value than the life of a tree. And there are no moral absolutes to consider, as these will also evolve and change as mankind continues to become enlightened and evolve. Enter – the culture of our day.

This was a long way around getting to the main point from this verse. The Scriptures are clear. The world that we see was not created from things that we see. The First Law of Thermodynamics states that matter and energy always exist. When there is an interchange between the two, the outcome is equal in matter and energy as to that which preceded it. You cannot destroy matter and energy, they always exist. Yet, the Bible is clear – they didn’t always exist. The entire universe, the galaxies that we can see, and the galaxies that we cannot see – were not a cosmic accident of pre-existing matter and energy that collided in a “big bang”. Rather, they were the predetermined and active creation of the Living God – who spoke them into being out of nothing! If we have a Creator, then we have absolutes in both nature and life that we must consider – in all areas! Our educational system has abandoned this foundational understanding.

Now, this takes faith to understand. But this thought is not written for those who have no faith. It is written as a reminder to my own heart, and a call to every father and mother who believes in Jesus Christ. We must become students of God’s Word and help our children test everything they learn through the lens of Scripture. If we don’t, when they leave for college, the faith that they once held dear will be quickly abandoned and they will be thrown into a spiral of confusion and doubt. It is time for parents of both public schooled and home schooled children to make instilling a Biblical World View in their children a top priority!

Lord, give us the grace, faith, and wisdom to do so! In Jesus Name!

About Kirk's Devotional Journal

Kirk L. Zehnder is the Founder of Resurrection Christian Outreach. RCO is a ministry that promotes the growth and vitality of the local church through speaking engagements, seminars, various media tools, and written curriculum and books. This ministry was started over 35 years ago by Kirk as a means to strengthen the church that he was pastoring. It grew as Kirk began to share these tools with other churches. Today many of the materials are being used by local churches both nationally and internationally. Kirk's Devotional Journal is a result of struggling with Bible reading programs that never seemed to work. Kirk feels the Lord helped him discover an easy-to-follow program to Read, Reflect, Pray, and Journal through the Bible in one year. This program is called L.I.F.E. Unlike other programs there are no dates to follow. You can miss a day and still complete your reading. You never feel like the dates and verses you missed are chasing you. You are free to enjoy your daily Biblical journey and listen to the voice of The Lord. For more information on the L.I.F.E. plan, send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com. Kirk is also available for speaking engagements, seminars, and retreats. With over 40 years of professional business and pastoral ministry experience, Kirk brings a unique combination of practical wisdom, humor, and Biblical insight. If you would like Kirk to speak at your church, school, or ministry, please send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible to discuss your opportunity.
