ROMANS 1:19-20: “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”
OBSERVATION: Is it possible to prove the existence of God? Volumes have been written addressing this question. There are many wonderful arguments for the existence of God. Yet, I think it is really quite simple.
Recently I went to Disneyworld and visited the “Art of Disney” store. As I walked through the store I admired the many paintings and film slides from the various Disney attractions and characters. I was drawn to one painting of Mickey Mouse with “Orange Bird”, the mascot of Florida and Disney’s Spring Flower and Garden Festival. On the painting, in the bottom right hand corner, there was a signature. It was simple to deduce from this signature that the painting did not just suddenly appear from the millions of atoms swirling in the cosmos – it had a creator. It was simple to come to this conclusion.
When we look at the grand paintings of our world it is exactly the same. We do not see random chaos continuing to evolve and then destruct, only to evolve again. We see beauty and order. We look upon the paintings of the California Redwoods, the Grand Canyon, the majestic oceans. We gaze upon the galaxies that continue in their orbit, and as we do we see the signature of a Creator. It is really that simple. As Paul states – “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them…”
Let me give one more powerful example. When my daughter was born, and I held her in my arms for the very first time, I saw the signature of a Creator. I marveled at the wonder of life as I counted ten tiny toes and ten tiny fingers. I saw the essence of love as I gazed into her eyes. I held a miracle that did not happen by chance – but was fashioned with purpose and order by a Creator. And, because we are created in the image of God, Karen and I saw our signature in this new gift of life. We saw our eyes, our nose, our mouth, our facial features. God had allowed us to follow in His creative image and place our signature on this wonderful creation.
So many today are dismissing God from the equation of their life. This is like trying to rub out the artist’s signature from a painting. You can attempt to do it, but this does not alter the fact that there is a creator. As we look at the world around us I would ask – “How is that going for the world today?” I remember when we were still able to bow our heads in prayer at school, when we learned the basic tenants of the 10 commandments and were taught to revere God and respect authority. These are distant memories. As we watch rioting, looting, and terrorism running rampant in our streets we see the result of our actions (read Romans 1:28-32).
This Thursday, May 7 we will have the opportunity to gather all over our Nation to pray. It is a time for us to acknowledge our Creator, to call upon His Son, and to allow our hearts to be led by His Spirit! There is no hope for peace without the Prince of Peace – Jesus Christ! Change will not come through new programs, more money, or skilled politicians. Change will only come through hearts and lives that are radically changed and surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We need a Great Awakening in our land!
It begins with repentance!
Repentance begins with me!
It begins when I humble myself and pray, seek the face of my Creator, and turn from my wicked ways!
In Jesus Name!
