MATTHEW 21:21-22: “And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
OBSERVATION: What things are possible to those who will believe? Jesus said – “All things”! I know that this is normally where one inserts some basic guidelines of understanding and balance to this overreaching principle and promise. While this is justified, as you cannot take one verse from the Bible and build a doctrine from it without the “whole counsel” of God’s revealed Word – this morning I am drawn to simply reflect on the possibilities of faith.
How many times do I undo the possibilities of faith through my logical sensibilities? In essence these are really disguised doubts in my life. If I am brutally honest with my own heart – I struggle with doubt. Jesus said – “If you have faith and do not doubt.” This was the prerequisite to the remainder of what He said. Jesus knew the Father’s heart at all times, and knowing He did not doubt. He experienced all the human emotions we experience, yet without sin. Doubt is sin. It is the opposite of faith and trust. Doubt does not see the potential resident in the all powerful Nature of God and His Love.
Lord, this morning I am not on a quest to understand the full balanced application of this verse. I am crying out to you to help me see the full potential of faith without doubt. Faith that is rooted in a deeper knowing of You, Your Nature, Your Word, and Your Will. Faith that is not limited to my past, my fears, my failures, or my limited perception. Faith that reaches up into heaven and touches the possibilities of Your Kingdom. Open my eyes this morning to see Your Faith – without doubt. In Jesus Name!
