ZECHARIAH 14:1-43: “Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.”

OBSERVATION: Is Jesus really coming again? Is there really going to be a literal 1000 year reign on the earth? Is everything really centered around one little nation in the midst of this big world – that being Israel? There are many today that doubt the claims of the “Second Coming of Jesus Christ”. Even among Christians there are those who try to spiritualize these claims. Many today are taking a view that all the claims of Jesus’ second coming were fulfilled by 70 A.D. They point to the prophecies of the Antichrist and the tribulation as being fulfilled through the destruction of Jerusalem by Titus of Rome. Yet, all of these views are incorrect and miss one important fact – Jesus will return, and He will return to Israel – setting his feet on the Mount of Olives!

The Mount of Olives is 1.6 kilometers East of the Temple site. The Scriptures are very clear, Jesus Christ will return to Jerusalem to establish His Millennial Kingdom. He will set His feet upon the Mount of Olives and the Mount of Olives will split in two from the East to the West, making a very large valley. This has not yet happened, and it did not happen in 70 A.D. Why is all the attention of the world focused upon this small nation of Israel? Why do nations like Iran pledge to destroy Israel? They unwittingly are just ploys in the hands of the enemy who knows that his time is short. The enemy knows that everything is centered around this tiny nation and he continually tries to destroy her, yet without success – for the hand of God sustains Israel!

How should all of this affect our lives? What should we do? First, we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem. As God’s people we are called to stand in intercession for the nation of Israel. We have become the people of God only because we have been grafted in by faith. Israel is the original covenant people of God and He will restore them in these last days and bring them to faith in Messiah. Until that time we must do everything we can to support Israel. We must be a voice for God’s chosen people and nation in a world that is growing in ever increasing hatred and animosity toward them. It is from Jerusalem that Jesus will reign on the earth – not from New York City!

Second, we should look for the “blessed hope” of our Lord’s return. Jesus will come first to gather His Church with the call of the “last trumpet”. Then He will return to Jerusalem to fulfill all of His covenant promises to the nation of Israel. The Day of the Lord is coming! It does not really matter if you are pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, or post-tribulation in your view of the rapture – JESUS IS COMING! And the “blessed hope” of all who place their faith in Christ is that they will meet Him in the air at the sound of the “last trump”. Those who ready, who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, will witness the culmination of all things as Jesus sets His feet on the Mount of Olives and establishes His rule and reign, fulfilling His covenant with Israel, and the full redemption of all mankind.

The “First Christmas”, the birth and ministry of Jesus Christ, brought us the Kingdom of God within. The “Second Christmas” – The Day of the Lord, will bring us the Kingdom of God for all eternity! Are you ready? In Jesus Name.
