ISAIAH 5:20-21: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!”
OBSERVATION: Do you ever feel like you are living in an upside down world? The things that we know are wrong are now being celebrated as good. The lines of morality and decency keep moving further and further from the revealed Word of God. There does not seem to be any stopping it. Our culture is not getting better – it is getting worse. What is the believer in Christ to do? Should we run to the hills and hide in the rocks until Christ returns? Is there a better way to deal with this onslaught of darkness?
Isaiah also writes – “So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the LORD.” (Isaiah 59:19-20 NKJV)
This verse can be read two ways. 1) When the enemy comes in like a flood… – or – 2) When the enemy comes in – Like a flood The Spirit of The Lord will lift up a standard against him. I believe the emphasis should always be on what The Lord will do – not what the enemy will do. Too often we feel powerless as we look upon this upside down world. We are not called to take up arms and wage a war in the flesh. Yet, we are called to take up the “Sword of the Spirit”, which is the Word of God, and raise up a standard. The Holy Spirit indwells the life of the believer. The church is being built as a living temple of the Holy Spirit. The Lord is not going to use angels to stand against the onslaught of darkness in this world, He is going to use His Church. We cannot shrink back in this battle. We must rise up with the Truth of The Lord, in the power of His Spirit, with Grace, Love, and Mercy – and take a stand against the darkness that is invading our nation, our airwaves, our schools, our families, and our churches.
During World War II the church in Germany did little or nothing. The few that stood up against the darkness were thrown in prison and martyred. The majority hid in the “rocks” (their homes and daily lives). The result was the Holocaust. In our nation – while unborn children are being killed, the Biblical foundation of marriage is being attacked, and the mores of society keep moving further and further toward the cliff, many are still pretending that if they ignore this it will go away. The Holy Spirit is calling us to rise up – LIKE A FLOOD! The enemy does not want us to know that LIGHT always dispels darkness. TRUTH always trumps deception. We will not be judged on how others respond to our message. We will simply be judged on whether we responded to the darkness of our day with the Light of God’s Truth. The time is at hand. It is a time to arise from our timidity. It is a time to walk as Jesus walked – proclaiming the TRUTH IN LOVE!
Jesus was crucified for the Truth. All the disciples, except John, were martyred for the Truth. Believers were thrown to the lions for the Truth. Yet, they continued to proclaim the TRUTH IN LOVE – and they changed the world. The battle is not lost. We have seen darker times and The Lord has brought Great Awakenings to our nation and our world. The call is for every Spirit filled believer to engage in prayer, to abide in the Word, and to be bold in proclaiming the Truth in Love. It could change our lives! It could change our world! Lord, come in like a Flood in our lives! Let us be Your Standard agains the growing darkness in this upside down world. In Jesus Name!
