DOES GOD ALWAYS FULFILL HIS WORD?

DEUTERONOMY 1:10-11: “The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as numerous as the stars of heaven. 11 May the LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has promised you”

OBSERVATION: Does God always fulfill His Word? Are His promises sure? Do all the promises of God truly find their “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus? Let’s take a look at these two verses and see if we can gain some perspective.

Moses looks upon the Children of Israel and proclaims – “The Lord your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as numerous as the stars of heaven.” Does this proclamation sound familiar? Hundreds of years before there was even a nation the Lord spoke these words to Abraham. When Abraham obediently offered us Isaac as a sacrifice, willing to give up his only son, the Lord delivered Isaac and said:

“And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭15-18‬ ESV)

Moses now stands beholding the literal fulfillment of the promise of the Lord to Abraham. Abraham was only able to see it in faith. Jacob was only able to see it in the promise once again repeated to him as he moved his family to Egypt to escape the famine. The sons of Jacob were only able to remember it as they recounted the promises spoken to their father. And more than likely, their sons forgot the promise as more than 400 years had passed. Yet in all of this time, and through all of these generations, the Lord watched over His Word to perform it.

This does not excite us much in our “instant” culture. We want things now, pronto, immediately! One familiar commercial’s jingle is – “It’s my money and I want it NOW!” Many times we doubt the veracity of God’s promises when we experience a delay in seeing them fulfilled. In all reality we expect promises that are eternal to be fulfilled according to that which is temporal. We struggle because we do not maintain an eternal perspective. God’s ways and His time table are not ours. This is not a cop out, this is simply reality. The Scriptures are filled with validation after validation that God always fulfills His Word. The words of Moses are one of these confirmations. We can fully be assured that what the Lord has spoken He will bring to pass!

Lord, forgive me for the times that I doubt You and Your Promises. Open my eyes and let me look at my life through Your Eyes. Give me an eternal perspective in everything and toward everyone in my life. Help me to be like Abraham who through faith and patience inherited the promise. It was Abraham’s possession the minute he believed, even though he never physically saw its’ reality. Yet the reality did come, and the reality of Your Promises will also be fulfilled in my life. This I confess and this I believe! In Jesus Name!

About Kirk's Devotional Journal

Kirk L. Zehnder is the Founder of Resurrection Christian Outreach. RCO is a ministry that promotes the growth and vitality of the local church through speaking engagements, seminars, various media tools, and written curriculum and books. This ministry was started over 35 years ago by Kirk as a means to strengthen the church that he was pastoring. It grew as Kirk began to share these tools with other churches. Today many of the materials are being used by local churches both nationally and internationally. Kirk's Devotional Journal is a result of struggling with Bible reading programs that never seemed to work. Kirk feels the Lord helped him discover an easy-to-follow program to Read, Reflect, Pray, and Journal through the Bible in one year. This program is called L.I.F.E. Unlike other programs there are no dates to follow. You can miss a day and still complete your reading. You never feel like the dates and verses you missed are chasing you. You are free to enjoy your daily Biblical journey and listen to the voice of The Lord. For more information on the L.I.F.E. plan, send an email to rcoutreach@aol.com.
